EU AI Act Article 50: AI content, chatbot, and deepfake transparency checklist

Overview

Prepare notices, disclosures, and technical marking for people interacting with AI or encountering synthetic text, image, audio, and video.

What to review

1. Inventory systems that interact directly with people or generate/manipulate text, image, audio, or video.
2. Give clear notice when a person is interacting with AI unless that fact is obvious in the circumstances or a specific exception applies.
3. For synthetic content, assess provider duties to make outputs detectable and marked in a machine-readable, interoperable, effective, and reliable format.
4. For deepfakes and certain public-interest text, design prominent deployer disclosures while checking artistic, satirical, editorial, and law-enforcement qualifications.
5. Allocate provider-versus-deployer tasks in product requirements and vendor contracts, including metadata preservation downstream.
6. Test notices in every supported language and channel; retain version, release, exception, accessibility, and effectiveness evidence.

What to do next

Article 50 applies from 2 August 2026. The Commission describes only a limited grace period for marking and detection duties of qualifying systems placed on the market before that date, so do not assume a general delay or retroactive labeling duty.
